Igor Batidas (29 years, Venezuela), artists of the next issue of BestiaMag tell us a little part of the process of his work “Max Romeo - PROTEST TO M1 (Pacheko Remix)”.
Something about you… what do you do, where do you live, age...?
I’m 29, I live in Caracas. And I’m a graphic designer and illustrator.
Why did you do the video?
During a year I was thinking about the possibility of a video. I needed to try something different than printing, so I open my way into motion graphics. One night I got an email from my friend Francisco (Pacheko) with a Max Romeo's remix he had made, for Senseless Record. It seemed perfect to begin.
How long did it take?
Approximately 4 months… It was a work done during the weekends and some weeknights. It was a different process, with new programs and much work frame by frame, a journey of sketches. “Trial and error”.
How did you organize?
Of course I've heard the song thousands times, I had a small idea of my character at first. Then I sat down to conceptualize. I thought the history, the context, the secondary characters… the links between the scenes and the song. Since the second month I had on my wall: sketches, the storyboard and a time line.
How would you describe the world of design and digital art in Venezuela?
There’s so much talent. A lot of people is out of the country for many reasons (the political situation, the economical crisis…). I think there’s a new generation, with so much to prove, if it happens or not depends of them.
Igor, thanks for the interview and good luck!
